A couple weeks after I got my drivers license I got in a wreck right in front of my High School with all my friends watching. It was not my finest moment!
I ran into the bumper of the car in front of me because I was looking in the rear view focusing on the vehicle behind me.
In addition to learning how long it takes to save up enough money at an after-school job to replace a fender and front door — I learned that day that there is a reason the rear view mirror is much smaller than the front window of the car.
The rear view mirror is fine to glance at but when you live in it you will have a wreck.
We all face the temptation to live life in the rear-view mirror. Maybe we are focusing on what others think about us, or what others have said about us. Or we focus on our own faults, fears, and failures of the past.
Paul said this:
Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 3:13-14
On the road of life, glance at the rear view mirror from time to time, but don’t forget to keep your eyes focused forward.
You’re going to make it! The best is yet to come!
Have a great day!
